Barumini
Ancient Sanna house
Town House
The old Sanna house, perfectly maintained and ready to be inhabited, consists of three blocks built at different but contiguous times to serve as a dwelling for the family and to house the necessities for the cultivation of the land and the rearing of the livestock on the property. The first of the three (second half of the 19th century), consisting of the ground floor and upper floor, was built by Raimondo, great-grandfather of the present owner, and overlooks Via Principessa Maria; the second, only the ground floor, acts as a trait-d'union between the first and the third and has a double overlook on the inner courtyard and the adjoining Ledda house. The third boundary block ('700-early '800?) has a ground floor and raised floor overlooking both the courtyard and Via Battisti.
Entering from No. 2 Via Battisti, one finds oneself in the library with its furnishings and the first flight of stairs leading to the upper floor. A window opens onto the courtyard and, opposite, another door leads to the large living room once used as a tobacco shop. The room has its own entrance with two doors, one of which is original and 'armoured'. It overlooks the large Piazza Santa Lucia, an enchanting green island in the centre that frames the small church dedicated to the saint and the true heart of Barumini.
The staircase leads to the upper floor with 4 bedrooms (3 doubles) overlooking the courtyard and Via Battisti and Via Principessa Maria. On the small hallway are doors to the first bathroom, equipped with a window and shower stall, and two more bedrooms. Back in the library is the good living room, which has a French window overlooking the courtyard and a second that opens onto the second rectangular living room, the only room that is not elevated, with three windows, two of which overlook the courtyard and a large corner fireplace.
The door opposite the entrance leads into the last block, the oldest. On the ground floor there is a kitchen with a fireplace and a newly remodelled cooking area. The room is equipped with a window and French doors that give onto the courtyard and a small patio. Next is a hallway leading to the second bathroom (shower stall, washing machine and small window overlooking Via Battisti) and a windowed double bedroom. On the upper floor there are two rooms, both with untreated wooden plank floors: the larger one, with two windows overlooking the courtyard, was used to store the harvest (especially grain and legumes), the second, with exposed beams, is still filled with small work tools, baskets, demijohns, oil containers, etc. etc.
The house is habitable immediately.
